Sustainable Goals​

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development aims to achieve better and more sustainable future for all through overcoming global challenges. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) are a collection of 17 goals, 169 outcome targets and approximately 300 indicators that we seek to achieve by 2030. ​

Education & Training Quality Authority (BQA) business activities seek to achieve Goal 4 (SDG4); namely: ‘Quality Education - Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.’ The SDG4 is composed of 10 targets; once achieved, the desired goal will be achieved by 2030. The Table below links the targets with the BQA’s objectives and initiatives.

BQA's Objectives & Initiatives

4.1. By 2030, ensure that all girls and boys complete free, equitable and quality primary and secondary education leading to relevant and effective learning outcomes.

 

Effective quality assured services through effective management of performance reviews of education and training institutions/ national examinations system / National Qualifications Framework (NQF), through automating the processes of the reviews and qualifications and working on electronic system for national examination.
4.2. By 2030, ensure that all girls and boys have access to quality early childhood development, care and pre-primary education so that they are ready for primary education.
  1. Effective quality assured services through effective management of performance reviews of education and training institutions/ national examinations system / National Qualifications Framework (NQF), through automating the processes of the reviews and qualifications and working on electronic system for national examination.
  2. Rooting the culture of creativity and lifelong learning through incorporating creativity concepts and lifelong learning skills into education and training review frameworks.

4.4. By 2030, substantially increase the number of youth and adults who have relevant skills, including technical and vocational skills, for employment, decent jobs and entrepreneurship.

 

  1. A citizen capable of contributing to the knowledge economy through national capacity building to contribute to the knowledge economy as the Authority represents an expert hub for education and training sector, which is also published on BQA website.
  2. National qualifications commensurate with the Kingdom's development plan through working with licensing authorities through the National Qualifications Framework Advisory Committee to develop a mechanism for institution-building to enhance their national qualifications.

4.5. By 2030, eliminate gender disparities in education and ensure equal access to all levels of education for the vulnerable peoples including disabled people, indigenous peoples and children in vulnerable situations.

 

  1. Updated policies, frameworks, systems and standards through updated and approved frameworks, policies and procedures to review the performance of education and training institutions / national examinations / National Qualifications Framework (NQF).
  2. Supporting human resources and knowledge environment through:
    1. Prepare succession plans for various positions and tasks
    2. Develop and implement BQA Staff professional development plan based on equal opportunities and empowerment of women.

4.7. By 2030, ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable, including, among others, through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture's contribution to sustainable development.    

 

  1. Ensure sustainability of knowledge through:
    1. Establishment of a database on the Authority's website to disseminate good practices among education and training institutions.
    2. Conduct of events such as workshops, forums and conferences to disseminate good practices.
  2. A citizen capable of contributing to the knowledge economy through national capacity building to contribute to the knowledge economy as the Authority represents an expert hub for education and training sector, which is also published on BQA website.
4.A. Build and upgrade education facilities that are child, disability and gender sensitive and provide safe, non-violent, inclusive and effective learning environment for all.
  1. Effective quality assured services through effective management of performance reviews of education and training institutions/ national examinations system / National Qualifications Framework (NQF) , through automating the processes of the reviews and qualifications and working on electronic system for national examination.
  2. Updated policies, frameworks, systems and standards through updated and approved frameworks, policies and procedures to review the performance of education and training institutions / national examinations / National Qualifications Framework (NQF).
4.C. By 2030, substantially increase the supply of qualified teachers, including through international cooperation for teacher training in developing countries, especially least developed countries and small island developing States.  
  1. Ensure sustainability of knowledge through:
    1. Establishment of a database on the Authority's website to disseminate good practices among education and training institutions.
    2. Conduct of events such as workshops, forums and conferences to disseminate good practices.
  2. Effective education and training institutions through continuing the organization of self-evaluation workshops for education and training institutions.

 



Along with the BQA’s contribution in achieving the SDG4, the Authority mandate help to achieve other SDGs; namely, the following:  
SDG1: ‘No Poverty’ – End poverty in all its forms everywhere. 
SDG5: ‘Gender Equality’ – Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.   
SDG8: ‘Decent Work and Economic Growth’ Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all. 
SDG9: ‘Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure’ – Build resilient infrastructure, ​promote full and sustainable industries and encourage innovation. 
SDG10: ‘Reduced Inequalities’ – Reduce inequality within and among countries. 
SDG13: ‘Climate Action’ – Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
