The Special Education Needs (SEN) Review General Framework is a Step Towards Continuing to Enhance the Quality of Inclusive Education in the Kingdom of Bahrain

Dr. Maryam Hassan Mustafa, Chief Executive of the Education and Training Quality Authority, emphasised the continuous commitment to keeping pace with the needs of educational and training institutes, particularly special education institutes, through the adoption of supportive policies that reflect an ambitious vision to further strengthen a competitive educational system. This system places education quality at the core of its priorities and is grounded in the principles of inclusivity and excellence in meeting the aspirations of all learners, including those with special needs, thereby contributing to the creation of a more engaging and inclusive learning environment.

In this context, the Chief Executive pointed out the importance of Resolution No. (55) of 2025 on issuing the Special Education Needs (SEN) Review General Framework, considering it a fundamental step towards enhancing the national efforts aimed at developing the inclusive education system in the Kingdom of Bahrain for all learners.

She added that the Authority has initiated the necessary measures to put this framework into effect, marking the launch of the project to review the performance of special education needs institutes in the Kingdom.

Dr. Maryam Hassan Mustafa explained that the project to review the performance of special education needs institutes responds to the growing importance of this sector and represents one of the main pillars of an integrated education system. It aims to ensure a more inclusive and engaging learning environment for students with special education needs. She stressed that the framework constitutes a pivotal step toward further enhancing innovation in the education sector and achieving the highest quality standards across educational institutes in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

She highlighted that the project is among the priorities outlined in the Education and Training Quality Authority’s 2023–2026 strategy. She noted that it represents a pioneering initiative in the region and aligns with international best practices in the field of special education, which focus on teaching and learning within an inclusive, high-quality environment that supports the holistic development of students in all physical, social, and cognitive aspects; thereby nurturing their passion for learning and innovation.
